Baldrige Criteria | Shows the Way
Organizations everywhere are looking for ways to effectively and efficiently meet their missions and achieve their visions. Thousands of organizations use the Baldrige Excellence Framework and its Criteria for Performance Excellence to guide their enterprises and achieve organizational excellence.
Baldrige Criteria | Creates the Framework
The Baldrige Excellence Framework provides the tools to examine and improve each dimension of your organization’s performance while keeping the whole organization in mind. Baldrige offers a proven way to achieve:
- Innovation
- World-class results
- Integrated processes that enhance your effectiveness and efficiency
- Organizational learning, with support from state role-model organizations in every sector
- Sustainable success
Baldrige Criteria | Sustains the Organization
The success of the Baldrige Criteria is two-fold. It identifies the key components that create excellence within the organization, but more importantly, it defines how the process of creating excellence can be undertaken with predictable, reliable and repeatable results.Baldrige Criteria | Delivers Results
The real value in the Baldrige process is the intrinsic understanding - how the criteria applies to your company - and what processes need to be aligned to achieve the desired change. In short, implementing the Baldrige Criteria helps you see - so you can do the right things, at the right time, and in the right way.
PRO-TEC | How They Started Their Journey
"TPE has trained our associates to be examiners, it has taught our leadership team to write an application, and most important, it has given our organization a blueprint to build a process-driven business model that links everything we do - to what we believe.
We are proud to be active members of The Partnership for Excellence and I would recommend TPE to any organization interested in using the Baldrige criteria to drive innovation and build sustainability.”

PRO-TEC Coating Company
- TPE Governor’s Award Recipient
- Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Recipient
PRO‑TEC Coating Company was established as a joint venture in 1990 by two global leaders in steel technology and production – United States Steel Corporation and Kobe Steel, Ltd., of Japan. The plant is located on a 1,200-acre site near Leipsic, Ohio, an area specifically selected for its proximity to automotive customers and steelmaking facilities – all linked by efficient access to truck and rail transportation.
Anticipating the demands of the 2025 CAFE standards, U.S. Steel and Kobe Steel recognized automakers will need materials that reduce vehicle mass while improving safety. The companies invested more than $400 million in PRO-TEC’s Continuous Annealing Line (CAL) launched in 2013. The CAL creates some of the most advanced cold-rolled, high-strength steel in the world, manipulating steel’s physical properties to enhance strength and formability.
PRO-TEC’s commitment to customer service and consistent quality earned them the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award – the nation’s highest Presidential honor for performance excellence.
